IPL 2024: Punjab Kings – 262/2 (18.4 overs)

Punjab Kings became the first team in IPL history to chase down a 250+ score. Needing 262, opening pair Prabhsimran Singh and Jonny Bairstow put together 93 runs in the powerplay. Prabhsimran brought up his fifty in just 18 balls. Bairstow and Rilee Rossouw added 95 runs for the second, with the Englishman doing the bulk of the scoring.

He smashed eight sixes and two fours to help the Mohali-based franchise chase down 262 with eight balls to spare. Shashank scored an unbeaten *68 off just 28 balls, while Bairstow scored a century. It is the only instance of a team successfully chasing a 250+ score.

IPL 2024: Kolkata Knight Riders – 261/6

Kolkata Knight Riders are the first team to breach the 250-mark at Eden Gardens. Against the Punjab Kings, KKR were asked to bat first and made the visitors pay for that decision. Opening pair Phil Sat and Sunil Narine made 138 runs in just 63 balls. Both batters made 70+ scores and hit ten sixes between each other.

After their dismissal, Venkatesh Iyer, Andre Russell, and Shreyas Iyer made small but significant contributions.  They brought up 200 in the 16th over, and Iyer smashed Sam Curran for three sixes in an over to take them closer to 250. Despite losing a few wickets in the death overs, the Knight Riders finished on 261. However, it was not enough, as the Punjab Kings won the match by eight wickets.

IPL 2024: Lucknow Super Giants – 238/3

Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran were at their best when the Kolkata Knight Riders hosted the Lucknow Super Giants. After losing the toss, LSG had to bat first. The overseas opening pair of Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh put on 99 runs in 62 balls. Markram’s departure brought Nicholas Pooran, who put on a show alongside Marsh.

Pooran and Marsh added 71 runs in just five overs. Marsh returned to the pavilion scoring 81, while Pooran continued to torment the Knight Riders’ bowlers. He brought up his 50 in 21 balls and smashed three fours and two sixes off Andre Russell in the 18th over. The Supergiants finished on 238, with Pooran remaining unbeaten on 87. The Lucknow-based team successfully defended 238.

Rahane, who came at No.3, sustained the momentum with some excellent counter-attacking cricket. He brought up his fifty in just 24 balls, while Conway made 56. Dube’s arrival helped CSK accelerate their scoring. The left-handed batter made 66 runs from the last four overs. Dube made his half-century in just 20 balls, as the Yellow Army racked up 235 in their 20 overs. In reply, KKR fell short by 49 runs.

IPL 2025: Kolkata Knight Riders  – 234/7

However, they still had a huge mountain to climb. Ajinkya Rahane and Venkatesh Iyer took the attack to the bowlers and steered KKR to 160.

The Knight Riders lost Rahane immediately, triggering a big collapse. They lost the wickets of Ramandeep Singh, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Venkatesh Iyer, and Andre Russell in the space of 13 balls. Despite some heroic efforts by Rinku Singh in the last two overs, the hosts lost by four runs. Rinku remained unbeaten on 38 off just 15 balls.
